For matches involving Buda Juniors.

Sunday 9th April 2006

vs Corvinus
lost 2-6
Jan, Sam
vs Szent Pál Akadémia
drew 1-1
Soma

Five down by half-time against Corvinus... Our team played very badly at the start - slowly, with no spirit. But a good second half, with great pressure, should have seen us score more than two. At times, parental advice seemed to distract the kids from what was going on in the game and away from their coaches' instructions - hopefully we can sort it out so this doesn't happen again.

Against Szent Pál, we played well overall, but this team we are capable of beating and we didn't. We just couldn't turn our pressure into goals and we were punished with an equaliser with 5 minutes left.

Saturday 22nd April 2006

vs Tát
lost 1-4
Aron
vs Esztergom
lost 0-3

We played very weak. The team didn't have the right attitude, with only Simon and Jan (sometimes) doing what everybody should have done. Definitely a day to forget (but to learn from).

Sunday 7th May 2006

vs Nyergesújfalu
lost 0-2
vs Dorogi Diófa
lost 0-3
vs Szent Pál Akadémia
drew 0-0

Against Nyergesújfalu we made a promising start, with Bernardo directing things from
midfield and Jan and Simon threatening going forward. Two sloppy moments before half time cost dearly. First Alec lost his boot, then slipped in his attempt to intercept a pass, leaving Jonathon with a two against one - as he closed one attacker the ball was squared to the other who slotted past Sven. Almost immediately it was two as we failed to clear and missed four tackles before the same player shot in off the post, leaving Sven no chance. The second half was much improved but we struggled to break down a stubborn Nyergesújfalu defence, with Simon lacking enough support to really threaten. The introduction of Sam, Max and Edgar brought more life to the game but in the end it was probably the right scoreline.

If you cannont defend set pieces then all the good football counts for nothing... A great first half against Diófa with Till, Max and Simon going close and a back three for the first time very solid. The second half was more of the same and finally it looked as though we had our reward as some great play from Jan put Simon through. He nicked the ball round a combination of last defender and keeper before being felled. Unfortunately the penalty spot was quite a distance from the goal and as Till stepped up the goalkeeper guessed right and palmed the ball away brilliantly... the ball fell to the on-rushing Jan who smashed the rebound goalwards only for the keeper to pull off an even better save!!! Still we pressed for a goal but only a great save from Sven kept the scores level. However, from the resulting corner nobody attacked the ball and a near-post flick looped into the far corner for the first goal. Amazingly not once but twice more in the last five minutes almost identical goals were conceded. So three corners in five minutes and a great performance was gone to waste, but hopefully some lessons were learned about how to defend dead balls.

No goals scored in three games was the most dissapointing aspect of the day but it wasn't for the lack of trying. The back three of Edgar, Alec and Jonathon was so strong against Szent Pál that Sven was a spectator for the entire game!! Some great football was played and, despite the lack of goals, it was a good way to finish the day with all the players performing very well in the final game.

Special words for Sven who showed how much he has improved between the sticks and also for Jan, whose attidude all day was something all the boys should be looking to emulate at future games.

Preliminary matches
These matches involving Buda Juniors were part of the preliminary, testing stage of the League.

Saturday 17th September 2005

vs Esztergom
lost 2-3
Max, Sam
vs Szent Pál Akadémia
won 3-0
Max, Simon, Sam

After a poor first half where we didn't get out of our own half and let in a soft goal, the boys fought back valiantly against Esztergom. An Alec own goal made the task even harder, but a left-foot shot from Max just squeezed in and then Sam tapped in a Till cross to make it all square. But it wasn't to be, with a stunning last-minute long-range strike into the top corner leaving Sven no chance. So no points, but a great second-half performance to savour.

Another sloppy first half when we took on Szent Pál Akadémia, but this time we ended up on top, thanks to Max's deflected shot. Two great goals from Simon and Sam capped a much stronger second half, but we should have won by even more.

Saturday 1st October 2005

vs Nyergesújfalu
lost 1-5
Max
vs Corvinus
lost 0-3

The first five minutes against Nyergesújfalu was all Buda Juniors and the pressure was rewarded by Max's finish after a great through ball from Simon. However, it was all downhill from there, with three goals conceded in the first half and a further two in the second. If it weren't for Jonathan and Sven, we would have lost by even more...

Despite the scoreline, the match against Corvinus represented our best performance so far. Non-stop battling from every player from start to finish and with more luck in front of goal we would have snatched at least a draw against the strongest team we've played so far.

Saturday 15th October 2005

vs Tát
lost 2-5
Jan, Max
vs Párkány
won 8-0
Sam (2), Jan (3), Max (2), Bernardo

A good start from Buda Juniors with efforts from Simon and Sam testing the keeper. Jan then opened the scoring with a long-range shot into the top corner. Suddenly, however, things changed as Tát hit three in five minutes to leave us stunned at the break. Defensively shaky, Juniors went further behind when the Tát dangerman evaded four half-hearted tackles to smash the ball past the exposed Sven. With the game over as a contest, both teams added one each before the final whistle and some harsh words...

In the day's second match all the questions were answered with a fantastic football display from start to finish. Sam's long-range free-kick was the only score before the break, but with Till, Bernardo and Max playing superbly in midfield, the floodgates opened in the second half. Jan and Sam added tap-ins either side of a Max double before Jan rammed two home to complete his hat-trick. The best was saved for last with a move involving Till, Max, Aron and Jonathan setting up Bernardo to find the top corner from 20 metres. As well as they have played and we hope for more of the same next time...
