After
going four goals down within the first three minutes,
it was always going to be difficult for the team from
Groups 2 and 3 to get back into the game. After the
break they started to play much better, using the
space and making good runs are were duly rewarded
with the only goal of the second half.
In a shortened game, Group 4 took complete control
and played some lovely football. Sam's goal was particularly
memorable and we shouldn't forget to mention Jonathan's
penalty save at a time when Greater Grace were pressing.
All round, an impressive display.

A
solid all-round performance against strong opposition,
although the score flattered Buda Juniors a little -
they scored 8 goals with no reply in the last quarter
of the match as the opposition tired. French winger
Thomas was always a handful and the defence was superbly
marshalled by Kaj and Florian. Lambert Jan was tireless
in attack, ably supported by Christopher, Hendrik and
James (on a flying visit).

When
the team from our coach Andy's school comes to play,
we always have close matches as the extra fitness
and training of the Buda Juniors players cancels out
the age and size advantage of the Poli students (17-19
years old). So although it looks like the A team won
at a stroll, many of the matches were very tight -
decided by a late goal or a costly error.
Of special note in these matches were both Buda Juniors'
goalkeepers, Florian and Kaj. They made some spectacular
saves and commanded their areas very effectively.
At the other end, Milan was as prolific and dangerous
as ever and Philip managed to score 5 goals in one
match - against the B team which included Janos!

Three
wins out of four is always a good return against the
Sparks (the AISB's Saturday club) and some of our members
really starred. Group 2's Eric scored two, while Lars
was brilliant for Group 3. Meanwhile the victorious
older teams were inspired by fantastic performances
from Thibaud, Christian, Jack and Victor.
Group 4 came out on top in a tough game. After going
one down early on, Titus scored before half-time with
an individual effort, curling from long range curler
top corner. In the second half we played very well and
Jonnie scored twice. For the first he cut inside from
the right and finished into the roof of the net, while
for his second he squeezed the ball in through a crowded
box under pressure from defenders and the keeper. Special
mention for Christopher, who played in goal in the second
half, and for Thibaud, who delighted the crowds with
his skill and quick feet!!!
Group 5 got off to a good start thanks to Jack from
a tight angle, but they were soon pegged back. After
a great move and a through ball from Kevin, Victor slotted
into the corner to restore the lead, but two goals in
30 seconds put us 3-2 down at half-time. Soon after
the restart Jack scored the goal of the day with a stunning
left foot volley from twelve metres into the corner,
then Victor made it 4 with his left foot after robbing
the goalie of possession close in. Sparks hit back from
a corner which Jacques nearly stopped, but immediately
Victor restored the 2-goal cusion with a long-range
effort for his hat trick. Jack then came back on for
the last 2 minutes and duly completed his own hat-trick
from Miika's pass. Christian in goal in the first half
and out in the second was great. A brilliant team performance
and 2 hat-tricks - what
more could we ask for...?

In
what will prove Jonnie's last official match with
Buda Juniors (his family are returning to England
after Christmas), Buda Juniors put on a show and scored
some very nice goals. Titus struck the top corner
with one, while Sam did his best Beckham impression
with a curling free kick. Everybody played very well
as a team, making the coaches very proud.
Group 5 also performed to a high standard, individually
and as a team. Special mention (again!) to four-goal
hero Thomas, Kaj and Menno.

Age
and experience proved too much for the Kids this year

The
level of this tournament is very good every year -
very well organised with hard matches. The 4th place
isn't a bad result, but Buda Juniors gave away goals
too easily through not paying enough attention. Titus
deserves a special mention for his great play throughout
the tournament.

Two years ego we also ended up 4th, so it looks like
we rented that position. Losing to Esztergom in the
semi-final was no disgrace, as they have one of the
best youth teams in Hungary and went on to win the
tournament. However, sloppy defence against Mav DAC
in both matches cost us 3rd place. The one victory
was very pleasing and the boys showed a lot of confidence.

On a lovely morning, Buda Juniors played some lovely
football to put Sparks to the sword.
Group 2 came together to tough it out and hold on
to the lead throughout their 20-minute match, with
Mans and Ralph playing brilliantly.
The main stars in Group 3's decisive victory were
Andras (both in attack and in goal) and birthday boy
winger Robert, but they were ably supported by the
positive Michael, the battling Jared and the rest
of the gang.
Meanwhile, Group 4 had to come from 3-1 down to snatch
a draw, but they would have won if it weren't for
the Sparks keeper, who made some magnificent saves.
Sam's crosses and corners posed lots of problems,
while Titus and Tim were solid at the back and Jan
a constant threat.

The guys really ran the opposition ragged in this
2x40 minutes match. Our team was working really hard
from the very first minute to the very last without
stopping for a second. Of course, the score is very
pleasing, but we were especially happy to see that
our oldest team's stamina, speed and teamplay compares
so well to a team which plays regularly in one of
the Hungarian youth competitions.
